# Relation in Mathematics

EXERCISE 1: TRY TO EXAMINE THE FOLLOWING RELATIONS AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THAT FOLLOW.

1. I had observed regarding the values of x for items numbers 1-3 is that the values of x are repeated.
2. For the items numbers 4-6, there is no repetition in the value of x.
3. If there is no repetition in the first element, then the relation presented is a function. However, if there is a repetition in the first element, then it is a relation but not a function.

EXERCISE 2:

1. Function
2. Not Function
3. Function
4. Not Function
5. Function

EVERCISE 3:

1. { (1, 120), (2, 240), (3, 360), (4, 480), (7, 840), (8, 960) }
2. There is no repetition in the x and y coordinates.
3. The longer the time you spend your time to work as a tutor, the higher the wage you are going to earn.
4. Function, because it has a unique values in the x-coordinates.

EXERCISE 4:

1. Not Function
2. Function
3. Function
4. Function
5. Not function
6. Function
7. Function
8. Not Function
9. Function
10. Not Function

Questions:

1. I didn’t encounter any difficulties in determining whether the given relation is a function or not.
2. I could determine or verify if the given relation is a function or not through knowing whether the relation is a function and if a function relates each element in the domain to only one element in the range. This means that each vertical line you draw through the x-axis can intersect the function at only one point.
